Dear students, faculty, staff, and supporters of Elon Musk University of East Africa,
As a young scholar in Rwanda, I held a dream shared by many: to advance my education beyond borders and engage with the world’s best academic institutions. But after many unsuccessful attempts to secure scholarships abroad, I came face to face with a difficult truth — that for many aspiring minds across Africa, access to quality global education remains limited, and often out of reach.
Despite the disappointment and repeated setbacks, I did not give up. My journey took a different turn when I received a full scholarship to pursue my studies online, from my home country. It was not the traditional academic path I had envisioned, but it became the foundation of a transformative experience that changed everything.
Through that opportunity, I was able to complete my education, develop new ways of thinking, and contribute original research to the field of public health. I began crafting new theories to better understand and address the complex realities facing our communities. These achievements, born from an unconventional route, reaffirmed the power of persistence — and more importantly, the possibility of accessing world-class education from home. For those interested in my academic work, you are welcome to explore my contributions on my Academia.edu page.
Yet, as grateful as I am to the institution that nurtured me, I came to believe that our continent needs a new direction in higher education — one that is learner-centered, socially responsive, digitally driven, and intellectually bold. That belief gave birth to Elon Musk University of East Africa. I envisioned a space not built on tradition alone, but on transformation; a place where students are empowered to think critically, innovate contextually, and lead with purpose.
Welcome to EMUEA — a new kind of university. One where access, innovation, and excellence are not luxuries, but foundational values. I invite you to join us in reimagining education for our generation and the next: an education system that reflects our realities, responds to our needs, and unlocks our full potential.
As we embark on this remarkable journey together, I encourage each of you — whether student, faculty, staff, or supporter — to embrace the opportunities ahead. Your talent is precious, and we are here to help you unleash its full potential. Together, let us transform lives, make education a fundamental right, and build a brighter, more equitable future for all.
With warm regards,
Dr. Evariste Erwin SEBAHUTU, PhD, MPH
